Some days are so much easier than others. Today was a struggle for me to stay positive. The reason? I don’t feel too well and was up all night with a runny nose and sneezing. Whenever we feel like this, it is so easy to be filled with negative energy and release negative energy. The last few months, however, I have been working on my mindset and practicing techniques to block out negative energy, as well as release and let go of any negative energy that I have trapped inside.

Energies Around Us

Take a moment and think about the individuals in your life who you surround yourself with. As you imagine them in your mind, pay close attention to the feelings and emotions that stir up. Think about what type of energy they emit whenever you are around them. Are they uplifting? Do they bring out the best in you? Are they refreshing to be around? Or, are they very critical? Do they find negatives in many things and complain a lot? Having more positive people in your life is obviously better for your soul. But why? Well, the energy they give off is contagious.

Of course we don’t live in a perfect world. There will always be people around us at one point or another that emit a very negative energy. They could even be family members. So you are probably wondering, “well, do I just completely avoid them?” Not necessarily.

Energy Shields

I’ve been following a “Spiritual Activator” on Facebook and Instagram. His name is Oliver Nino. One of the many good habits that I learned from him is how to activate and use an energy shield. He explains it so beautifully and in such detail in some of his videos. I highly recommend following him. In the meantime, I’ll try to explain it in my own words.

I create a visual of my own energy shield surrounding me. When I visualize mine, it is like a cyclone of greens and grays going around me. It is blocking and protecting me from all of the negative energy that surrounds me. This hasn’t been an easy task. Still after two months, I still have to remind myself to put it up. Or sometimes a friend will remind me when she notices that the negativity that surrounds me starts to get to me. So my suggestion is that if you are serious about working on your reactions to negativity, make sure you have an accountability partner. Reach out to them when negativity starts to get to you. You can help each other stay grounded.

Energies WITHIN Us

So, I’m starting to become more aware of the energies around me and I have the techniques, such as an energy shield, to use when I’m in the presence of negative energy. But what do we do when the negative energies are already WITHIN us?

Well, that is where I am right now. As I previously mentioned, I’m not feeling well and I didn’t get enough sleep last night. Thinking back at all the other times that I have felt sick with a cold, I admit that it is so easy to get swept up in my own negative energy. It is in me already, so how do I release it and let it go? By breathing.

Another technique I’ve learned from Oliver is to focus on my breathing and make sure I’m taking slow, deep breaths..

  • Breath in and picture all of the negativity pulling together in one big mass in your core.
  • Breath out and visualize releasing that mass out of your body.
  • Breath in and imagine all of the positivity and love being transferred into your core, replacing the space that the negativity took up.
  • Breath out. Visualize sharing all of that positivity and love with the world around you (don’t just keep it to yourself)!

Self Awareness

If you want to be successful with these techniques, I truly feel that the most important thing you can do is to be more aware of your own positive and negative energies, as well as the energies around you. Be honest with yourself. If you are not aware and noticing an energy shift, you won’t realize that you have to take action and use the techniques I shared.

So as I sit here listening to the positive lyrics performed by Bob Marley and the Wailers, along with writing and sharing all of this knowledge with you, I am focusing on my breathing. I’m creating positive energy around me with the music and breathing that in. I’m also taking comfort in knowing that my self-awareness is growing and I recognized that I have a bad habit of becoming negative when I feel ill.

Once again, no one is perfect. We are human. We are a work in progress. We just have to remember to put in the work in order to make progress.
